The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25k award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was given the award on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages had in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating over £100k on his recent tour to support numerous grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The concept that revenue from shows in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to donate his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

When they won the award in the year 1996 for their record their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would give their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her award among multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," she shared with a publication.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the youth organization that supported their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had protected two small stages in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in the city and the other in that location were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
