Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
