From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
